We turn global data into public good

Georank.org is an independent open data project that transforms raw global statistics into interactive content. We make the world's most important macroeconomic and social data accessible and useful for everyone — from researchers and journalists to educators and the general public.

A vast amount of valuable global data is technically open but practically inaccessible — scattered across fragmented databases in inconsistent formats. We unify this data into a coherent system that can be easily explored and understood.

Beyond publishing official statistics, we produce derived data by combining existing indicators to create new ones, extending the value of existing datasets and delivering insights not directly available from any single source.

We present data through straightforward, easy-to-understand visualizations, prioritizing clarity over complexity.

Data pipeline

Our methodology is tailored to work with multiple overlapping sources to provide the most comprehensive coverage while minimizing errors.

1
Aggregation. We collect data from multiple sources into a data warehouse, maintaining retrieval timestamps and archiving previous versions to ensure traceability.
2
Harmonization. We align definitions, units, and methodologies to ensure compatibility across countries and datasets.
3
Validation. We cross-verify figures reported by multiple sources to find and correct errors where possible.
4
Testing. We employ a test suite to catch data points that fall outside expected ranges and flag them for manual review.
5
Source ranking. We maintain an internal hierarchy of sources, preferring those closest to the origin (e.g., national statistical offices) and those with demonstrated reliability.
6
Selection. For each indicator, we select the best available data point, balancing accuracy, recency, and completeness. For global rankings and comparative dashboards, we may prioritize more comprehensive datasets to ensure fair country-to-country comparisons.
